As a lifelong resident of Los Angeles, I realize it’s not always convenient to get around town. Traffic jams are a fact of life here yet driving in a car seems to be the only way to get around this city. Over the past 8 years, I’ve used a bicycle to commute around town, and have found it to be a great solution for some people but not for all people.
First off, riding a bike across a city the size of Los Angeles is a workout! It’s not always feasible to bike to a meeting in Santa Monica from your office in Downtown Los Angeles. But neither is driving a car in horrible traffic on the 10 freeway.
You could ride the Metro, but you might find yourself walking a mile just to get to and from the bus stops. If you ride your bike to the bus or train, you might not have space to bring it on board. There’s only so many bike racks per bus and sometimes trains won’t allow you to bring your bike on board.
STRiDA is a bike designed to fill that gap in your commute. It can fold up into a lightweight wheelable stick that you can store in your trunk or carry on the bus or train. You don’t need to lock it up outside, it goes where you go. Just bring it into your home or office. Yet it unfolds into an elegant, comfortable and stylish bicycle that cruises along at an easy pace. The gearing is very tame and you’ll have a hard time breaking a sweat riding this bike. Granted, you’re not going to win any sprints as this is no race bike. It’s purpose is clear: a simple, practical commuter bike that plays nicely with mass transit.
